“I’m too tired, too exhausted, and too drained.” “I can’t do this anymore.” “I can no longer take another step.” “I want to stop and quit.” “I just want to end everything.” These lines seem familiar, right? We usually utter these words when we’re at the peak of losing hope and giving up. When we are so overwhelmed with things that are already out of our control, how can we still go on?
In life, there are things that are inevitable— pain, hardship, failure, disappointment, downfall, etc.—and nobody’s exempted from these. No matter how far we ran away, how deep we isolate ourselves, and how much we weep and grieve, life will follow us wherever we go. Sometimes we come to the point when we think that ending our life is the only solution. But little did we know, that is the scheme of Satan, to make us think that there’s no hope left, that no future awaits, and that giving up is the only choice left for us. But in that very moment when we feel we’ve lost everything, is the exact moment Jesus comes.
DO NOT LOSE YOUR GRIP.
So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees (Hebrews 12:12, NLT). Even with our tired hands and weak knees, Jesus tells us to not lose our grip. It’s actually normal to be worn out especially when we carry out heavy responsibilities. As a child, as a sibling, as a student, as an employee/employer, as a citizen, as a disciple/leader, and as a person, we have a lot of responsibilities to accomplish. This is why God commanded His people to take a new grip, because it is through perseverance that we may be able to get our strength back from God.
KNOW WHERE YOUR STRENGTH COMES FROM.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever (Psalm 73:26, NIV). We have to understand that as human beings we are bound to fail, because in our weakness we are made strong (2 Cor. 12:9-10, NIV). In times when we have done our best and gave our all yet the outcome is still unfavorable, we come to think that we are a failure. We tend to forget that success doesn’t come from our own efforts alone, it comes from God. We cannot endure every difficulty in life without the sustenance of God’s strength. And it is by God’s grace that we may able to overcome all these things.
YOUR GOD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU.
For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory (Deuteronomy 20:4, NIV). Let us not be afraid to battle each day even with a weary heart and tainted hands, because victory rests in the palms of God. Sometimes we prefer to keep it all within ourselves; our struggles, hopelessness, offense, rants, rejection, abandonment, etc. But we should always put in mind that we are not fighting alone, as we’re not supposed to. It only takes one moment for Jesus to come along. And that one moment is when we surrender everything to God, and allow Him to fight for us.
Now let’s go back to our first question: When we are so overwhelmed with things that are already out of our control, how can we still go on? The answer is simple. Come with Jesus.
Although He told us in John 16:33 that we will have many troubles in this world, it doesn’t end there. Jesus also promised that we may have peace in Him, because He has overcome the world. So take heart, beloved! Continue to persevere amidst all circumstances. As long as Jesus comes with you, nothing shall harm you. There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off (Proverbs 23:18, NIV).
