Run the Race!

- By Sim Paul Quem Butlig

Hebrews 12:1 NKJV

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us...”

Imagine yourself in a full packed arena and everyone is cheering for you. Shouting every positivity they can shout, “YOU CAN DO IT!” “DON’T GIVE UP!” and many more. This is the picture of the cloud of witnesses in heaven cheering for you! The people who are was once running the race, the people who once labored the message of the gospel all over the world cheering for you to endure, to persevere and never give up.

Why is it easy for us to give up? Why did you start running if you are just to give up? This is not a sprint, this is a marathon. Don’t give up because God provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us (Hebrews 11:40). The truth is God wants us to endure and persevere the race we are in because He had something better for us! What you are going through right now is not final. God won’t make us wander but He makes us better through enduring and persevering. That’s why Apostle Paul says, “…run with endurance the race that is set before us,” because he knows how beautiful it is in the end. Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke once prayed to God, “Lord help me to mind in the beginning what matters the end.” What matters in the end is God as our reward! How can we give up with this? He is our reward! Don’t give up my friend!

But why do most of the Christians give up? Why did they not endure the race? You know why? Because of weights and sins. What are these weights? These are the things that are not sin but it could lead us to complacency. Someone once said, “Complacency is a blight that saps energy, dulls attitude and causes a drain on the brain….” This is so dangerous right? Let go of the weights of your life, maybe it is gaming, Netflix, even your boyfriend or girlfriend, your crush and many other things that you yourself know. And of course, sin, yes sin. Our God is a loving God but he hates one thing – sin. And if God hates it so much, it is enough to say that this will hinder in our run to finish our race. Let go of your sin, repent, and go to Jesus! He died for us to cleanse us from our sin, instead of us dying with our sin, He died for us. It’s not too late my friend, as long as we are still breathing there is a chance but don’t miss this opportunity because opportunities may vanish. Leonard Ravenhill said, “The opportunity of a lifetime must be seize during the lifetime of the opportunity.” Lifetime opportunities having a lifespan, make a decision today to let go of your weights and sins. There is nothing God cannot forgive, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 NIV

Run the race my friend! Don’t give up, let go and let God. Be strong! God sees you. Thank you and God bless you.
