HOW I MET JESUS IN COLLEGE SERIES
Time flies so fast.
It was like yesterday when I saw myself smiling but empty inside.
It was like yesterday when I saw myself living in this world,
No purpose,
No direction to behold.
Musing the years I have known the Lord,
The I today is His grace foretold
‘Twas an amazing journey to be told.
Before I met God in college,
I was a person who loved to do things close to nothingness
void and were only to please others.
I was a person doing things just to fit in,
for the sake of attention, just to be seen
and for the so called “friendship,” I dreamed
I have let myself be influenced by the things that can only lead me to ruins
Being far away from my family,
My friends are the only companion I was with.
Temptations and worldly pleasures made me blinded.
I continued to be like this for several months in my 1st year in college.
Day after day I was consumed slowly by the lies of the world,
Telling me that it was my only worth,
that I did not matter that much because of the things I did
and because of all the mistakes I’ve made,
it’s the identity, I began to take.
But the God that I serve today has a different story.
though stuck in all those confusions,
brokenness and sadness,
the God of mercy has pursued me without an end.
By sending a person who happened to be my senior
the Gospel to me, through him, was made known
I was guided back to the God of grace
To the Youth to The Nations, I was introduced and was embraced.
At first, I was so shy,
With all the introductions and hi’s
and the fervent “what did you learn?” question every time,
My nerve wracks in each try!
And those “share your life” moments
when your heart is constantly exposed,
not just to them, but to God, first and foremost.
It was not easy, I always need a push.
But a sharing after another,
Condemnation has never taken over.
I felt I BELONG HERE!
I felt VALUED, I felt better.
And I feel they are not just friends,
They are FAMILY from heaven!
I pursued,
I continued,
All the gatherings and events I attended.
Until such time I didn’t notice,
my relationship with God has gone deep-seated
through them, by God’s grace.
I still remember one of their events,
God spoke to me through a verse,
Chapter 23 verse 26 in Proverbs
“My son, give me your heart and let your eyes observe My ways,” it said.
It was like God is challenging me
to give up my life to Him completely,
to trust His ways every day
And things will change eventually.
The idea of being different, As they see you as a “Christian” and not in secret...
I took the challenge.
My life drastically changed.
And it has never been better.
Of all those things God had shown me,
I have decided adamantly,
I’ll commit myself to follow Him daily.
Until now,
I have no regrets in my decision
To follow God is my goal.
Before, I thought,
following God will make you weird and bored,
different from the rest,
but then I realized it’s the best
Being different like this is amazing indeed.
To you who’s reading this, I hope you are deeply encouraged. Examine and identify your circle, It can be your workmates, classmates, friends.Or whoever surrounds you every single moment.
The idea of being different
As they see you as a “Christian” and not in secret,
The identity of Christ in me is shining bright,
That even if I’m not in the spotlight,
Or don’t have treasures so brilliant.
And any worldly pleasure can not match
Still to me, God is more than enough.
To you who’s reading this,
I hope you are deeply encouraged
Examine and identify your circle,
It can be your workmates, classmates, friends.
Or whoever surrounds you every single moment.
Choose who really matters!
Choose those who will guide you and care.
Those who will lift you up,
those who will help you grow
To become mature and responsible enough.
Remember,
Only a dead fish goes with the flow,
be different as you go.
Leaving you this verse,
Chapter 18:24 in Proverbs.
“A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
Musing the years I have known the Lord,The I today is His grace foretold ‘Twas an amazing journey to be told.
Pass it on!
